Joe Joyce Next Opponent

Last night saw Joe Joyce emerge victorious for the first time since 2022 when he defeated Kash Ali via KO. Joyce’s performance was cumbersome for the first five or six rounds and he only found success once he had sapped some of Kash Ali’s energy. The KO in the last 10 seconds was a great finish to mask a disappointing performance. Here we’ll take a look at the best Joe Joyce next opponent available.

Joyce is currently ranked #6 on BoxRec but that seems far too high for his current situation, having just beaten IBO ranked #99 Kash Ali. Results here

The 5 opponent selections below should give Joyce a good chance of victory and 4 are ideal for either the UK or Saudi Arabia. They aren’t designed to boost his ranking or achieve his greatest payday.

Derek Chisora

War Chisora has stated he wants 3 more fights to reach number 50. Chisora vs Joyce is a good British bout that sells out the smaller London venues and would generate some buzz on TNT Sports. Joyce lacks mobility and is better suited to facing older opposition for the time being and there’s not a queue of promoters offering Chisora other options.

If Chisora really wants to reach his 50, he will jump at the chance of being Joe Joyce next opponent.

Luis Ortiz

44-year old Luiz Ortiz has already fought in 2024 where he picked up victory in Colombia. Ortiz hasn’t had a major fight since 2022 when he went 12 rounds with Andy Ruiz and lost. Although it isn’t the biggest scalp due to his age, only Deontay Wilder has stopped the Cuban (twice).

Martin Bakole

Martin Bakole is a far higher risk than the two earlier options. Bakole has no major mobility which is a plus, but he possesses a lot of power in the early rounds. Joyce tends to start slow, so it becomes a bit of a coin-toss. Can Bakole break Joyce down within 5? Or damage him significantly to lead into the latter rounds? If he can’t Joyce has a strong chance of victory.

There’s also some beef over a leaked sparring video. More on that here

Dave Allen

Dave Allen is set to fight for Fightzone on a small-hall show next month. He is looking for bigger fights. Allen would be a step-up from Kash Ali, although it might not attract the interest of Saudi Arabia who control the purses of the Heavyweight division.

Jarrell Miller

Jarrell Miller posed next to no threat to Daniel Dubois, who lost in the final seconds in the similar manner to Kash Ali. If there’s an idea to do a rematch of Dubois vs Joyce then putting Joyce against Miller beforehand would be a nice lead-in. Miller is a great mouthpiece who can sell a fight but would be a beatable option for The Juggernaut.

Honourable mentions:
Tony Yoka
Michael Hunter
Daniel Dubois
Arslanbek Makhmudov
Fabio Wardley
