Joe Joyce vs Derek Chisora Undercard, Preview and Start Time Preview

Queensberry Promotions head to the 02 Arena to present a Heavyweight clash between two British Heavyweights. Joe Joyce vs Derek Chisora will headline the card, with Joyce needing a victory after two successive losses to Zhilei Zhang. Chisora is attempting to reach fight number 50 and has said this will be his last fight in London.

Joe Joyce vs Derek Chisora

Joe Joyce (14-2) is on the comeback trail after his defeats to Zhilei Zhang. Joyce had been the WBO Interim Heavyweight champion and in-line for a shot against Oleksandr Usyk, but the successive defeats removed him completely from the title picture.

Joyce did compete at Magnificent Seven last year where he defeated Kash Ali by TKO. The victory was unimpressive against lesser-opposition and a late-KO wasn’t enough to spare Joyce from criticism. He steps up against tougher opposition in Derek Chisora, although both Ali and Chisora notably are slower and have limited mobility, the same weaknesses as Joyce.

Derek Chisora (34-13) is a British favourite and multiple time World title challenger. Chisora has fought and lost to Tyson Fury (x3), Wladimir Klitschko, Oleksandr Usyk, Joseph Parker (x2), Dillian Whyte (x2) and David Haye. He has often been referred to as the gatekeeper for the top-tier of the Heavyweight division, and will once again do so against Joyce.

Chisora is on the back-end of his career and is targeting 50 fights before he retires. WAR was victorious against Gerald Washington last time out at the 02 Arena on the undercard of Joshua vs Helenius last year. Chisora will need a win if he wants his final two fights to be against good, named opposition.

Dennis McCann vs Ionut Baluta

McCann vs Baluta is scheduled for the chief support to Joyce vs Chisora. This a rematch which ended in a controversial Technical Draw, despite Baluta having a lot of success as the B-fighter. McCann has returned since and picked up an impressive victory, but can he defeat the Romanian bogeyman Ionut Baluta?

Rest of the card

Ryan Garner vs Archie Sharp should represent the toughest test of Garner’s career. Sharp returned to Queensberry earlier this year and struggled to a victory, but remains unbeaten and highly ranked.

Moses Itauma competes against the most durable opponent on his record, experienced Mariusz Wach. Itauma should easily outclass Wach, but Wach is tough to stop and went the distance against Frazer Clarke last year.

Son of Naseem Hamed Aadem Hamed competes for the second time. New Queensberry signee Brandun Lee also appears on the show. Raven Chapman is in action as she targets a future bout against WBC champion Skye Nicolson.
