The Undisputed Light Heavyweight championship bout between Beterbiev and Bivol has been brewing for years. The pair of boxers have held World titles since 2017 and fans have been awaiting a clash between them.
Dmitry Bivol (22-0, 11 KO) has held the WBA Light Heavyweight title since 2017. Bivol has defended his championship 10 times, recording a TKO in his first defence following by 9 Unanimous Decision victories. Bivol dispatched of Lyndon Arthur with ease at Day of Reckoning last year, scoring a knockdown and winning 13-0 on every judge’s scorecard. He also won a second championship and picked up the IBO World Light Heavyweight title.
Bivol picked up the biggest victory of his career in 2022 when he outpointed Saul Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas. Bivol won the bout by 2 rounds on every scorecard and has shown no interest in a rematch unless it happens at Super Middleweight for Alvarez’s championships. Dmitry Bivol also defeated Craig Richards, Umar Salamov and Jean Pascal when defending his WBA belt.
Artur Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KO) captured the first of his three world championships in 2017. Beterbiev won the IBF title with a 12th round KO of Enrico Koelling. He added the WBC title in 2019 when he stopped Oleksandr Gvozdyk. The WBO World title came with the decimation of Joe Smith Jr in 2022.
Artur Beterbiev has recorded 9 consecutive knockout victories in championship bouts. He stopped British duo Callum Smith and Anthony Yarde in his last two defences. Beterbiev has also stopped Marcus Browne, Callum Johnson and Adam Deines in title bouts.
The styles of Beterbiev and Bivol are polar opposites. Beterbiev is a KO artist having stopped 20 out of 20 opponents. Bivol is a superb boxer who doesn’t target a KO and breaks opponents down round by round.
