Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson is set to feature on Netflix. Jake Paul and Mike Tyson’s contest will be the first boxing broadcast live on Netflix. The show is set for 20 July 2024 at the AT&T Stadium in Texas, USA.
Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson
The bout will pit 27-year old Jake Paul (9-1) against 58-year old Mike Tyson (50-6). Jake Paul has been competing as an active professional boxer since 2020, whereas Mike Tyson retired from the professional ring in 2005. It is currently unknown whether this will be a professional bout, but given the age difference it is far more likely to be an exhibition.
Jake Paul had been competing with a goal of pursuing a World championship contest, and faced comparatively unknown opponent Andre August and Ryan Bourland in his last bouts. Both of those ended in the first round, and neither appeared to draw big viewing figures as previous Jake Paul bouts had done.
Jake Paul had earlier PPV bouts against a range of former UFC opponents. These included Ben Askren, Tyrone Woodley (x2), Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz. Paul was successful competing against MMA fighters, but then went on to face Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia. Jake Paul lost to Tommy Fury via Unanimous Decision, with Paul scoring a late knockdown but failing to outbox the boxer.
Iron Mike Tyson is a former Undisputed Heavyweight champion. Tyson captured his first World championship in 1986 when he defeated Trevor Berbick for the WBC belt. This was 11 years before Jake Paul was born. Tyson went on to unify the Heavyweight division and become Undisputed by adding the WBA and IBF championships. Tyson held these until his shock loss to Buster Douglas in 1990.
Tyson’s second title reign came in 1996 when he defeated Frank Bruno for the WBA title. Tyson never defended the belt and opted to pick up the WBA title for his third reign when he defeated Bruce Sheldon.
Iron Mike Tyson retired from the professional ring in 2005 following his RTD loss to Kevin McBride. Tyson had lost 3 of his last four bouts and was well past his peak at this point of his career. He returned in 2020 for an 8-round exhibition against Roy Jones Jr., that was bizarrely scored a Split Draw. He had previously indicated a desire to fight in more exhibitions and targeted a rematch against Evander Holyfield.
