SHEERAZ VS WILLIAMS : LIVE ON 02 DECEMBER 2023

WHO IS BOXING?

On 02 December 2023 live on TNT Sports, unbeaten Hamzah Sheeraz (18-0) faces the toughest test of his career as he faces off against Liam Williams (24-4-1). The bout is being promoted by Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, and will be held at the Copper Box Arena in Hackney.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN THE BUILD-UP TO SHEERAZ VS WILLIAMS?

Queensberry held a face-off to announce Hamzah Sheeraz vs Liam Williams.

WHO IS THE FAVOURITE FOR SHEERAZ VS WILLIAMS?

Hamzah Sheeraz should enter this bout as the overwhelming favourite. Sheeraz defended his WBC Silver Middleweight belt on the undercard of Usyk vs Dubois, when he finished Dmytro Mytrofanov inside 2 rounds. This ended a long period of inactivity for Sheeraz, and with the cobwebs now shaken off, he will be keen to complete the third defence of his WBC belt. Williams has vastly more experience than Sheeraz, having fought unsuccessfully for a WBO world title, and recorded a win last November on the undercard of a Channel 5 show against Nizar Trimech inside two rounds. But prior to that win Williams had successive defeats to Chris Eubank Jr, and Demetrius Andrade, and with his last significant win coming in 2020 for the British Middleweight Championship, it remains to be how much he has left in the tank.

WHAT DO THE BOOKMAKERS THINK ABOUT SHEERAZ VS WILLIAMS?

Umar Khan vs TBA

ARE THERE ANY HIGHLIGHTS ON THE UNDERCARD FOR SHEERAZ VS WILLIAMS?

Gavin Gwynne vs Emiliano Marsili. On paper Marsili has an astonishing record (42-0-1), remaining undefeated since 2003. But many of the opponents are of questionable quality, such as his last win in December 2022 against Fabrizio Ferreri (1-6). Marsili has hit the canvas several times throughout his career, but he possesses reasonable KO abilities, especially compared to Gwynne. Despite this, 26 of his 42 wins have come via points decisions. Gwynne picked up the British Lightweight Championship in April defeat Craig Woodruff via TKO, but with 4 stoppages out of his 16 wins, he’s even more likely to favour the distance than Marsili. Gwynne will enter as favourite as he has fought named opposition, but Marsili won’t want to lose his 20 year unbeaten streak.

Sam Noakes also recently missed his opportunity on the undercard of Zhang vs Joyce 2 when his opponent pulled out. He will be keen to make up for lost time, although currently he has no opponent.
