Sam Noakes (13-0) boasts a 100% knockout streak and enters the bout having successfully stopped Lewis Sylvester back in February inside 4 rounds. Noakes currently holds British and Commonwealth gold alongside minor WBC and WBO championships. He bids for his fifth championship when he faces the more experienced Mendy.
Yvan Mendy (48-6-1) has two previous defeats in the UK to Luke Campbell and Denys Berinchyk in the UK, but did defeat Luke Campbell back in 2015 before losing the rematch. The French boxer picked up a Split Decision against Bastien Ballesta to capture the IBF International Super Lightweight title.
Sam Noakes vs Yvan Mendy will be contested over 12 rounds.
Rest of the Card
There are two other standout bouts on the undercard. Henry Turner vs Bradley Townsend will see two undefeated fighters face-off for Turner’s WBC International Silver Super Lightweight title. Turner (12-0) holds the championship and is coming off a Unanimous Decision victory over Billy Allington in November. Oxford-born Bradley Townsend (16-0) is coming off the back of two stoppage victories, including one in March this year.
Bradley Townsend withdrew with an injury. Maykol Mendoza (16-4) was selected as a replacement opponent.
Henry Turner vs Maykol Mendoza will be contested over 10 rounds.
Andrew Cain (10-1) returns for the first time since losing to Ionut Baluta via Split Decision. Cain was the favourite against Baluta having scored two first rounds KO’s in his previous contest, but came up short against the Roman bogeyman. Cain will compete against game journeyman opposition Darwing Martinez (8-19-2), who usually comes to fight rather than rollover.
