Mauricio Lara returns on Matchroom Boxing Mexico Show

Former WBA world Featherweight champion Mauricio Lara will face Daniel Lugo on the undercard of Matchroom Boxing’s show in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Mauricio Lara (26-3-1) had a mixed 2023. The Mexican boxer captured the WBA Bantamweight championship in February against Leigh Wood with a stunning 1 punch knockout. He arrived to the rematch in May overweight, and was stripped of the title before he stepped onto the scales. Lara had failed to meet an agreed checkweight before the fight, and it was deemed medically unsafe for him to meet the Featherweight weight limit. Lara lost the rematch over 12 rounds and suffered a knockdown, and he failed to compete in 2023.

Mauricio Lara’s next opponent is Daniel Lugo. Lugo (27-2) picked up three stoppage wins in 2023, but has faced anyone with the credential of Lara. Lugo has suffered two career defeats, the most recent being a stoppage loss to Edwin Palomares in 2021.

Lara vs Lugo will feature as the chief support on the Curiel vs Nontshinga card on Friday 16 February 2024. No further undercard announcements have currently been made.
