McCormack vs Dobson
The original line-up for Matchroom’s NXTGEN Newcastle show

Shabaz Masoud is returning to action following almost a year of inactivity. Masoud last competed in November 2022, and was due to appear on Matchroom Boxing’s Liverpool show headlined by Catterall vs Linares. Masoud fell ill after completing the weigh-in, and withdrew from the bout with Sanmartin. After Pat McCormack suffered an injury and was ruled out of facing Dobson, Matchroom rescheduled Masoud vs Sanmartin to the Newcastle NXTGEN show.

Masoud (11-0) vs Sanmartin (34-7-1) will be contested for the WBA Inter-Continental Super Bantamweight championship, which Masoud captured when he defeated Jack Bateson last year during his last bout. Sanmartin has competed one this year, losing a wide points decision to Kevin Gonzalez in America.

Mackenzie vs Davis

On the undercard, the chief support sees two unbeaten British Super Welterweights in action. Evan Mackenzie (8-0) enters as the A-side against Ishmael Davis (11-0). Although both boxers have unbeaten records, neither have faced particularly challenging opposition along the way, and this will be a step up for both of them. Both Mackenzie and Davis have beaten 1 boxer each with a winning record.

Davis did win his only fight this year, scoring a TKO over Lesther Espino in Leeds. Mackenzie’s best win dates back to 2022, but he’s competed twice this year winning since 6 round decisions in both. This bout is 10 rounds, with Mackenzie never competing in more than 6 rounders, and Davis in 8. It also serves as a an English Super Welterweight title eliminator, granting the winner an opportunity to fight for the title.

Dickinson vs Dennis

Mark Dickinson (5-0) competes in the Middleweight division against Grant Dennis (15-8). ‘Boo Boo’ Dickinson competed on the earlier NXT Gen show in Newcastle back in March. This bout serves as an English Middleweight title eliminator.

Calum French (4-0) competes against Jeff Ofori (12-5-2) in the Lightweight division. This is a change from the originally scheduled opponent of Shaun Cooper.

On Before the Bell, or the early portion of the undercard, Cameron Voung, Ben Rees, Owen Rees and Jimmy Sains all compete in their second pro bouts.
