Wasserman Boxing and Channel 5 have announced their first show for 2024 featuring Abass Baraou vs Sam Eggington for the European title. The card places place from the Telford International Centre on Friday 01 March 2024.

Wasserman Boxing’s last shows took place in December with Gorman vs Myronets being the final one to air on Channel 5 in 2024. Wasserman also promoted Josh Kelly’s Sunderland bout on 16 December 2023 which featured on DAZN.

Abass Baraou vs Sam Eggington

German Abass Baraou (14-1) enters as the favourite against experienced Brit Sam Eggington. He has 9 KO’s from his 14 victories and previously fought in the UK on the Harlem Eubank undercard against Miguel Antin last year. His sole defeat was a Split Decision loss to the more experienced Jack Culcay, losing by a single point.

Sam Eggington (34-8) is a fan favourite bidding to become a two weight EBU European champion. Sam Eggington is also a former Prizefighter competitor and a former IBO World, British and Commonwealth, and WBC International champion. He notably retired Paul Malignaggi in 2017 when he defeated him via KO.

The 30 year old last appeared on Boxxer’s Lawrence Okolie vs Chris Billam-Smith’s undercard when he knocked out undefeated Joe Pigott. Eggington has twice won domestic Fight of the Year and he comes to attack and entertain.

The Savage Eggington is undefeated in his last two since a Majority Decision loss to Dennis Hogan in 2022.

Eggington had been rumoured to appear on Sky Sports for his next bout, and was supposed to face Sam Gilley. Gilley confirmed on social media he is now seeking new opposition, though he may face Eggington further down the line.

The undercard for Baraou vs Eggington includes an Area title contest. Andrei Dascalu vs Joe Jackson-Brown will contest the Southern Arena Super Middleweight title.

Matty Harris returns from his first defeat against Amine Boucetta. Boucetta lasted less than half a round when he faced Moses Itauma in September 2023. The bout is contested over 4 rounds, with Harris’ last bout a 6 round defeat when he showed clear stamina issues.

Kaisee Benjamin has also been added to the card at late notice. Benjamin suffered back-to-back defeats to Sean McComb and Dalton Smith, but has since rebounded with a Points Decision victory. His opponent remains TBA.

Young Wasserman Boxing prospects Tom Welland and Dan Toward also feature on the card.
