This closed the Channel Five broadcast. Unbeaten Dan Toward faces his toughest opposition in Frank Madsen, who left him bruised and bloodied in the fourth round. Toward went through round 5 and Madsen’s corner threw in the towel before the start of round 6.

Abass Baraou vs Sam Eggington

Abass Baraou entered as the bookmakers favourite for his bout against Brit Sam Eggington.

Sam Eggington started strong shading the opening rounds with greater activity than his German opponent. Baraou stepped up his activity in round 3, knocking out Eggington’s gumshield and winning the round.

Baraou’s quality was beginning to shine through after taking round three, although Eggington remained game opposition and took round 4. The scorecards seemed even at round 6 by my scorecard, with both fighters taking three rounds apiece.

Baraou took rounds 7 and 8 from Sam Eggington as he continued to fight on the inside and keep space at a premium. The Savage Eggington was left fighting on the back-foot rather than using his trademark high-pressure fighting.

Round 9 Abass Baraou did serious damage to Eggington and threatened a stoppage. Baraou landed countless shots between Sam Eggington’s guard, with Eggington taking the shots rather than boxing and moving. Eggington was left with a large cut underneath his left eyebrow but survived the onslaught. He responded well by shading round 10, although he wasn’t inflicting as much damage as his opponent.

Baraou again came close to a KO in round 11 as Eggington looks exhausted and took a series of flurries. They both saw the final bell.

The scorecards at the end read: 114-114, 117-111, 117-112 winner by Majority Decision Abass Baraou
