Teraji vs Canizales Start Time and Undercard

Boxing returns on Tuesday 23 January 2024 as Teraji vs Canizales headlines the show live from Osaka, Japan. This is the first of ESPN’s 5 contracted shows in Japan for 2024.

The first major live boxing event from Asia in 2024 features Kenshiro Teraji (22-1) defending his Unified Light Flyweight title for the third time against Carlos Canizales (26-1-1).

Kenshiro Teraji has only competed in championship bouts since 2015. The fighter has held his WBC belt since 2022 when he avenged his only loss to Masamichi Yabuki. Teraji ended the year as Unified Light Flyweight champion as he defeated WBA champion Hiroto Kyoguchi.

Teraji has defended his status as Unified Light Flyweight champion on two further occasions, defeating Anthony Olascuaga & Hekkie Budler in 2023.

Carlos Canizales is a former WBA Light Flyweight champion fighting in Japan for the third time. Canizales picked up a Split Draw in his first world title bout in 2016 against Ryoichi Taguchi, denying him the title. In 2018 he picked up his first world title in Japan when he defeated Reiya Konishi.

The well travelled Venezuelan boxer has been rebuilding since his title loss in 2021 to Esteban Bermudez. Canizales has picked up four successive victories since then, including winning a WBA eliminator in 2023 in an ugly contest against Daniel Matellon.

There’s also a further world title bout on the undercard. Artem Dalakian vs Seigo Yuri Akui is being contested for the WBA Flyweight title.
