Nina Hughes reveals Ankle Injury before Cherneka Johnson loss

Former WBA World Bantamweight champion Nina Hughes have revealed she suffered an ankle injury 8 days before her bout against Cherneka Johnson. Hughes vs Johnson featured as the chief support to Lomachenko vs Kambosos in Australia last weekend.

Nina Hughes (6-1) revealed the injury on her Facebook. In a post earlier today Hughes said she fell over a kerb and sprained her ankle. She goes on to credit her coach for reducing the swelling and keeping her fit to fight.

@themobilitycoach After stupidly falling over a kerb while running and spraining my ankle 8 days before the fight. Aidan helped get the swelling down and movement back in my ankle ready in time so I was fit to fight.

Hughes has been critical of her loss to Cherneka Johnson and is seeking a rematch following her first career defeat.

Hughes controversially lost via Majority Decision to Johnson, although the scorecards were initially read in her favour. Following the viral footage of the ring announcer’s error, he later took to social media to apologise. You can read more on that story here.
