Leigh Wood Vacates WBA Featherweight Championship

‘Leighthal’ Leigh Wood (28-3) has vacated his WBA Featherweight Championship, following a successful defence earlier this month against Josh Warrington (31-3-1). The news broke earlier today on x.com by Dan Rafael. The conclusion of the bout saw Leigh Wood emerge victorious at the end of the seventh round via TKO. Post-fight, both Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington stated their intention to move up to Super Featherweight for their next bout, and that required Leigh Wood to vacate his championship. Wood leaves the division as a two-time WBA champion, having lost and regained his championship to Mauricio Lara earlier this year. Josh Warrington is still expected to move up in weight when he next competes.

As for the WBA Featherweight Championship which is now vacant, is it expected the WBA will order their number 1 and number 2 ranked fighters to compete for the belt. That will see Otabek Kholmatov vs Raymond Ford for the vacant championship.
