Leigh Wood confirms interest in Warrington Rematch

Former WBA Featherweight champion Leigh Wood has confirmed his interest in facing Josh Warrington for a second time. Wood successfully defended his WBA Featherweight crown against Warrington in August, when he defeated ‘The Leeds Warrior’ via TKO in round 7.

Josh Warrington has been critical since the defeat to Wood, having controlled the majority of the bout before the stoppage loss. Warrington has spoken regularly of a rematch on social media, and spoke on DAZN in the build-up to Chantelle Cameron vs Katie Taylor 2. You can hear his thoughts below.

Leigh Wood took to X to respond and confirm his interest in a bout. Wood is looking for a suitable dance partner to face at Nottingham Forest’s stadium the City Ground, with Emanuel Navarette, Joe Cordina or a rematch with Michael Conlan amongst the other mooted options. Wood vs Conlan was previously awarded Fight of The Year for 2022.

Both Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington announced their intention to move up in weight following their contest, so the rematch would be contested at Super Featherweight. The pair have exchanged social media digs since the first contest, and Wood added a few more following Warrington’s callout.

Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington are expected to return to action in the first half of 2024.
