Lawrence Okolie moves up to WBA number 7 Bridgerweight ranking

The World Boxing Association have released their updating rankings for February 2024. The updated rankings see former World Cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okolie move up to number 7. Okolie’s promoter Ben Shalom has confirmed the boxer will be moving up in weight, but it remains to be seen whether Okolie fights at Bridgerweight or Heavyweight.

Lawrence Okolie (19-1) hasn’t fought since he lost to Chris Billam-Smith in May last year. Okolie did not trigger his mandatory rematch clause to face Billam-Smith again for the WBO World title, and instead has remained inactive. Despite this he has moved up in the rankings from number 8 to number 7. Okolie doesn’t hold a ranking in any other weight division.

Isaac Chamberlain also features in the WBA Bridgerweight rankings for the first time. Chamberlain is ranked at number 13, as well as being ranked 9 in the Cruiserweight division.

The Bridgerweight division is a recently formed weight-division sandwiched between Heavyweight and Cruiserweight. The WBC added the division and the WBA added their own division a few years later. The IBF and WBO do not currently recognise Bridgerweight.
