Matchroom Boxing return to Manchester with Jordan Gill vs Zelfa Barrett headlining the card. The undercard also features a bout for a vacant WBO World title.
Jordan Gill vs Zelfa Barrett
Jordan Gill picked up the biggest victory of his career last December when he stopped Michael Conlan in the main event of a Matchroom show. Gill was the underdog entering the contest with the expectation that Conlan would defeat him and move onto more high profile opponents. Having upset the odds and stopped Conlan, he now features in the main event as an A-side.
Jordan Gill (28-2-1) has previously held the EBU Featherweight title until a KO defeat to dangerman Kiko Martinez. Gill trains with former WBA world champion Leigh Wood and was open about his mental health challenges in 2023.
Zelfa Barrett (30-2) is coming off a quiet 2023 rebuilding from his world title loss. Barrett picked up a win in Cardiff via Unanimous Decision against Jason Sanchez. He had a further 8 round victory over journeyman Costin Ion in November on the undercard of Cameron vs Taylor 2, but the opposition was far below Barrett’s level.
Rest of the Card
The undercard also features Rhiannon Dixon vs Karen Carabajal for the vacant WBO World Lightweight title. Dixon was also made mandatory for vacant IBF title, but opted for this instead of facing fellow unbeaten Matchroom fighter Beatriz Ferreira.
Ellie Scotney vs Segolene Lefebvre will contest a Unification bout in the Women’s Bantamweight division. Ellie Scotney is unbeaten in 8 contests having taken all of them to the scorecards. Segolene Lefebvre has just 1 KO from her 18 bouts but also boasts an unbeaten record.
Michael Gomez Jr vs Kane Baker is also set for the English title. Gomez Jr is defending his English title for the first time since he captured the belt. He defeated Levi Giles in a controversially scored contest live on Sky Sports in 2023.
Cameron Vuong vs Jordan Flynn will see the unbeaten pair fight in a growing grudge match. Both Voung and Flynn have exchanged words online and shared a face-off after Voung’s last victory.
