Jackson Chauke crowned new IBO World champion

South African boxer Jackson Chauke (24-2-2) has been crowned new IBO Flyweight world champion following his victory over Afghan Kaisy Khademi (10-2-2) at York Hall. Khademi vs Chauke headlined a night of boxing promoted by Neilson Boxing and airing on Queensberry Boxing’s YouTube channel.

Chauke scored a heavy knockdown on Khademi in round 1 over their 12 round bout. Khademi survived, but he struggled to be competitive for the following rounds. 38 year old Chauke showed his experience as he pressured Khademi round after round, picking up points in the process. Khademi was more competitive in the latter rounds as he targeted a KO knowing points was out of reach, but Chauke was able to handle the pressure.

The scorecards read 116-112, 117-110, 117-110 in favour of Jackson Chauke at the end. Jackson Chauke was the B-side fighter but was greeted warmly with applause following his hard fought victory. It was Chauke’s second victory abroad as he now holds wins in the UK and Russia.

Kaisy Khademi was set to become Afghanistan’s first world champion if he had won, and goes back to the drawing board following his second loss. Jackson Chauke will go on and defend his new IBO world championship after competing for the vacant title.
