Gwynne vs Marsili Start Time and Preview

On Friday 01 December 2023, Queensberry and TNT Sports return for a Fight Night Live headlined by Gwynne vs Marsili for the EBU European Lightweight title. The event was rapidly arranged after the Liam Williams vs Hamzah Sheeraz bout set for 02 December 2023 at the Copper Box Arena was cancelled following an injury to Sheeraz. Queensberry added Liam Williams to the bill of their 24 November 2023 show, and formed an additional York Hall show for the rest of the undercard.

Gwynne vs Marsili

Gavin Gwynne vs Emiliano Marsili. On paper Marsili has an astonishing record (42-0-1), remaining undefeated since 2003. But many of the opponents are of questionable quality, such as his last win in December 2022 against Fabrizio Ferreri (1-6). Marsili has hit the canvas several times throughout his career, but he possesses reasonable KO abilities, especially compared to Gwynne. Despite this, 26 of his 42 wins have come via points decisions. Gwynne picked up the British Lightweight Championship in April defeat Craig Woodruff via TKO, but with 4 stoppages out of his 16 wins, he’s even more likely to favour the distance than Marsili. Gwynne will enter as favourite as he has fought named opposition, but Marsili won’t want to lose his 20 year unbeaten streak.

Gwynne is heavily favoured by the bookmakers, with odds of 1/8. Marsili is 6/1 with Paddy Power.

Gwynne vs Marsili Undercard

Four title bouts are currently on the card.

Gavin Gwynne vs Emiliano Marsili – EBU European Light (vacant)

Brad Strand vs Joshua John – WBO European Super Bantamweight title
Sam Noakes vs Carlos Perez – WBC International Silver Lightweight title
Raven Chapman vs Lucie Sedlackova – WBC International Featherweight title
Oronzo Biradi vs Israel Duffus
Sonny Ali vs Fernando Mosquera
Umar Khan vs Yin Caicedo
Moses Itauma vs Michal Boloz
Royston Barney-Smith vs Maicol Velazco

Undercard Highlights

Sam Noakes recently missed his opportunity on the undercard of Zhang vs Joyce 2 when his opponent pulled out. He will be keen to make up for lost time, although currently he has no opponent.

Moses Ituama is an exciting young heavyweight but given his opponent is yet to be announced, and there were rumours of Itauma competing twice in December, I would expect another one-sided contest.

Raven Chapman is a possible challenger for WBC Interim Featherweight champion Skye Nicolson, and will be targeting a win to move onto bigger challenges in her division.

The competition from the B-side is unusually strong on paper for the title fights. Marsili is unbeaten, and both Joshua John and Sedlackova only have a single defeat on their records.
