Eduardo Hernandez vs Daniel Lugo Preview and Undercard

Matchroom Boxing continue their global fight card as they take to Mexico for Eduardo Hernandez vs Daniel Lugo. The undercard for the event features a women’s WBA World title clash Erika Cruz vs Nazarena Romero.

Eduardo Hernandez vs Daniel Lugo

The main event in Mexico sees Eduardo Hernandez (34-2) look to bounce back from his recent World championship defeat. Hernandez challenged WBC champion O’Shaquie Foster, but was down on the cards before losing via TKO in the final round. It was the first World championship bout of his career having largely fought on small-hall Mexican shows.

Hernandez returns to action against recent Mauricio Lara opponent Daniel Lugo (27-2-1). Lara vs Hernandez served as the Chief Support for Matchroom’s last event in Mexico, and Lugo scored a surprise Majority Draw against the former World champion. The draw earned him another spot on a Matchroom bill, with Lugo stepping up for the biggest challenge of his career.

Both fighters carry two defeats on their record. Lugo was last defeated back in 2021 via TKO by Edwin Palomares and also lost a Split Decision 3-rounder early in his career. Hernandez’s two losses came against Foster and a first round KO defeat to Roger Gutierrez back in 2019.

Erika Cruz vs Nazarena Romero

Erika Cruz vs Nazarena Romero serves as the chief support for the event. Erika Cruz (17-2) is defending her newly won WBA world title against Nazarena Romero (13-0-1).

Cruz has previously held gold at Featherweight, reigning as WBA champion for almost two years until a loss against Amanda Serrano in February 2023. Cruz moved up in weight to Super Bantamweight since the loss, picking up two victories including winning the World title in November against Mayerlin Rivas.

The only blemish on Nazarena Romero’s record came in a World title bout. Romero fought Mayerlin Rivas prior to Cruz. The bout ended in a 5-round Technical Decision, with the judges ruling the bout a Draw after a cut to Romero’s eyelid. Romero has been inactive in the 11 months since she faced Rivas, but now has another opportunity at the World title.
