Benavidez vs Gvozdyk ordered for the Interim World championship

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has confirmed Benavidez vs Gvozdyk has been ordered for the Interim World Light Heavyweight championship.

The bout will feature unbeaten American David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KO’s) against number 2 ranked contender Ukranian Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KO’s).

Benavidez is moving up in weight from Super Middleweight to challenge for the Interim championship. There were hopes of a possible bout against Undisputed Super Middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez in May, but he seems set on either Jaime Munguia or Jermall Charlo.

David Benavidez already holds the WBC Interim Super Middleweight championship. He captured the title in 2022 with stoppage victory over David Lemieux. He successfully defended his crown against Caleb Plant via Unanimous Decision, and completely outclassed the unbeaten Demetrius Andrade in his last contest, winning by RTD.

Oleksandr Gvozdyk is a former WBC Light Heavyweight champion who lost his crown to Artur Beterbiev. He has since rebounded with three victories; a 6 rounds points decision followed by stoppage wins over Richard Bolotniks and Isaac Rodrigues.

The bout is being promoted by TGB Promotions and expected to feature on Amazon Prime Video later in the year. It is unconfirmed whether this will be a PPV or not.
