Vasily Lomachenko vs George Kambosos is set for Sunday in Australia with the IBF and IBO Lightweight championships up for grabs. The Top Rank card is set to include three world championship contests with later announcements confirming the bouts.
Ukranian Vasily Lomachenko is coming off a defeat to Devin Haney in 2023. Lomachenko was outpointed in his only contest of the year, losing the opportunity to become Undisputed Lightweight champion. He has a chance to gain one of the four belts if he beats George Kambosos Jr., and add an IBO title as well.
Australian George Kambosos Jr. is coming off a controversial Majority Decision victory over Maxi Hughes where he captured the IBO title. The former unified Lightweight champion held two of the major belts and a Super belt until he also lost twice to Devin Haney in 2022.
Both Lightweight contenders enter as former unified champions, and both as victims of Devin Haney. Lomachenko vs Kambosos will crown the winner as a two time champion, as well as a former unified world champion. The IBO world title is typically not recognised as one of the four major belts, but the IBF belt does receive recognition.
Rest of the card
Two further World championship bouts have been added to the card.
Carlos Cuadras (42-5-1, 28 KOs) vs Andrew Moloney (26-3, 16 KOs) has an Interim championship at stake. Cuadras then withdrew with injury and was replaced by Pedro Guevara.
Nina Hughes (6-0, 2 KOs) vs Cherneka Johnson (15-2, 6 KOs) will see Hughes defend her WBA World title.
Hughes is a recent signee following a departure from Matchroom Boxing to DiBella. She has been seeking further activity and will enter as a heavy favourite against Johnson.
