Thomas Patrick Ward set for first bout in 2024

Thomas Patrick Ward is set to compete for the first time since losing to Otabek Kholmatov in 2023.

Thomas Patrick Ward (33-1-1) will appear in a hometown show at the Rainton Meadows Arena in Houghton Le-Spring. Ward will fight against Amani Bariki (14-4-2) over 8 rounds in the Super Featherweight division.

Tommy Ward challenged Otabek Kholmatov last year in Newcastle and suffered a destructive first career defeat. Kholmatov was simply too strong for Ward and scored 3 knockdowns en-route to victory.

A move to Super Featherweight is interesting as Ward isn’t known as a puncher, having recorded just 5 career KO’s. Moving up in weight to Super Featherweight isn’t likely to solve the problem. Ward is only 29 and already a veteran of 35 bouts, so he does have plenty of time to familiarise himself at a higher weight.

You can catch Thomas Patrick Ward in action at The Shamrock Brawl on 16 March 2024.
