Cordina vs Vazquez Matchroom Boxing Results

Here are the results from Matchroom Boxing card in Monaco on 04 November 2023. The card featured four bouts, topped by Cordina vs Vazquez, and included 2 world championship contests. It was broadcast live on DAZN.

Guzman vs Ali

Ramla Ali avenged her previous defeat to Guzman by picking up the victory over 10 rounds. Guzman started aggressively but Ali landed a cracking shot in the second round. Guzman overpowered Ali but faded as the rounds wore on, with Ali’s speed and footwork becoming key to picking up rounds.

The scorecards all read 96-94 in favour of Ramla Ali, somewhat controversially as Guzman had lots of moments throughout the contest.

CISSOKHO VS LUCERO

Cissokho vs Lucero was a slow paced bout with neither man desperate to engage. Cissokho put Lucero down in the second round but never pressed the pace, and the bout was a frustrating watch. Cissokho outclassed the relatively unknown Lucero and caused a cut beside his right eye, but never looked like finishing his opponent, as the bout went the full 12 round distance.

The scorecards read: 118-109 (x2), 117-110 Cissokho.

NONTSHINGA VS CURIEL

Curiel started strongly and the bout ended abruptly with a single right hand blow. Nontshinga was knocked down in the second round and in no position to continue, with the fight waved off.

Curiel becomes the new IBF Champion by second round KO.

CORDINA VS VAZQUEZ

This bout was contested for the IBF Super Featherweight Championship. It became clear quickly that Edward Vasquez was a more game opponent than expected. Cordina and Vazquez went the full 12 round distance with neither man clearly bettering the other. Vazquez has studied Cordina and successfully nullified his best weapons, and largely succeeded in doing the better body work. Cordina carried greater power than his opponent but wasn’t able to inflict much damage on Vazquez, although the champion did outbox the challenger.

The scorecards read: 115-115, 116-112 (x2) Cordina. Cordina retains via Majority Decision. The scorecards, much like for Guzman vs Ali, were somewhat controversial.
