John Fury has launched a blistering verbal attack on his estranged brother Peter, labeling him a "cockroach" and an untrustworthy "dog" after the veteran trainer crossed enemy lines to join Anthony Joshua’s training camp. The high-profile crossover comes ahead of the much-anticipated, blockbusting heavyweight showdown between Joshua and John’s son, Tyson Fury, scheduled to take place this coming December.
The long-awaited Battle of Britain has finally been secured, with Cardiff’s iconic stadium set to host the mega-fight following months of intense negotiations, promotional posturing, and back-and-forth maneuvering between the respective Fury and Joshua camps. Yet, despite the magnitude of the domestic clash, neither John nor Peter will be stepping foot inside the corner of the "Gypsy King" on fight night. The family divide was thrust violently back into the public spotlight this week when Anthony Joshua casually revealed in an interview that Tyson’s own uncle, Peter Fury, had lent his expertise and advice to the AJ camp to assist with preparations for the Cardiff encounter.
The revelation instantly raised eyebrows across the boxing world given Peter’s deep familial ties to the Fury dynasty. However, Tyson Fury initially attempted to downplay the situation, shrugging off suggestions that his rival would gain any meaningful inside track. The undefeated heavyweight claimed that he and his uncle had not spoken in years, attempting to neutralize any psychological advantage Joshua might hope to gain from the association.
John Fury, however, adopted a drastically different tone during an explosive discussion with Playbook Boxing, making no effort to conceal his absolute fury. The outspoken patriarch hinted at what he views as an unforgivable betrayal by his brother, vowing that the rift is now so deep that he will never speak to Peter again for as long as he lives.
"If he was to do that in any way, shape or form, that would make him the lowest form of human being," John stressed during the fiery interview. "Even thinking about doing it, that makes him the biggest dog, the biggest untrustworthy dog of all time. If he’s going to start giving phone calls and advice, meeting in secret, giving him secret sessions, he’s a f***ing cockroach. The only advice he could have wanted is on Tyson, isn’t it? There is no smoke without fire."
Directing his anger straight at his brother as if speaking to him face-to-face, John delivered a final, scathing warning: "Son, give your head a wobble. Don’t sell your soul to the devil for a fiver."
While John has been fiercely protective of his son in the face of what he perceives as a treacherous alliance, the relationship between father and son remains fraught with tension. Relations between John and Tyson are currently minimal, having been, in John’s own words, "completely destroyed" in recent times. The father and son duo find themselves completely at loggerheads over the direction and future of Tyson’s storied boxing career. John has been remarkably vocal and adamant that the former heavyweight champion should prioritize his long-term health and wellbeing by walking away from the sport for good, particularly following two previous failed attempts at retirement.
Peter Fury’s relationship with the family has its own complicated history. Peter famously trained Tyson during the golden period of his career between 2011 and 2017, guiding him to his historic, unified world heavyweight championship victory over Wladimir Klitschko in Düsseldorf. However, that successful partnership ultimately fractured amid a bitter schism involving both father and son, leading to Peter’s departure from the corner and a lasting estrangement.
Before his father’s latest outburst, Peter had attempted to contextualize his interactions with Joshua on social media, acknowledging that he had spoken with the London-born contender roughly two months prior. According to Peter, the conversation centered purely on "advice on his skill set," while he praised Joshua as "a really nice guy."
Peter added on social media: "After his fight anything he needs from me (would) be a pleasure. He has a great team around him (including) Team Usyk."
The Gypsy King himself had previously taken to social media in an effort to set the record straight regarding his uncle’s reported involvement with his upcoming opponent, dismissing Joshua’s initial remarks as "categorically untrue." Despite the distance between them, Tyson acknowledged the complex nature of family loyalty, though he used severe language to describe the hypothetical scenario of a true betrayal.
"Even if Peter Fury hated me, he’s still my family," Tyson said on social media. "That would mean he would be a Fredo, scorpion, snake, rat, b** piece of s*** if he did that."
As the clock ticks down toward the opening bell in Cardiff, the psychological warfare outside the ring is proving just as intense as the preparations taking place within the respective training camps. With old family wounds ripped wide open and accusations flying across the boxing landscape, the December mega-fight carries an unprecedented layer of personal animosity, ensuring that all eyes will be locked firmly on the drama unfolding both inside and outside the ring.
