Dakota Ditcheva Cleared to Train, Sets Sights on Championship Rematch Against PFL Flyweight Queen Jena Bishop

Undefeated British mixed martial arts standout Dakota Ditcheva is officially back on the mend and wasting no time setting her sights on the top of the division. With a flawless professional record of 16-0, the dynamic flyweight contender has announced that she has been medically cleared to resume training following a challenging period on the sidelines. Ditcheva underwent successful surgery on both of her hands, injuries that she sustained during a grueling unanimous decision victory over seasoned veteran Denise Kielholtz back in July.

That hard-fought triumph over Kielholtz kept Ditcheva’s unblemished record intact, but the physical toll exacted by the bout forced the talented Brit into an unexpected hiatus. While Ditcheva was recovering from her bilateral hand surgeries, the Professional Fighters League women’s flyweight division continued to move forward. In her absence, rival standout Jena Bishop captured the inaugural PFL women’s flyweight world championship by securing a high-stakes victory over veteran Liz Carmouche at PFL Chicago. Now, with her hands fully healed and her body responding remarkably well to rehabilitation, Ditcheva has made it abundantly clear that her primary objective is to secure a championship opportunity and reclaim what she believes rightfully belongs to her through a high-stakes rematch with Bishop.

Returning to the gym after major hand surgery requires a delicate balancing act for any combat sports athlete, and Ditcheva has been methodical in how she reintegrates herself into full combat readiness. Speaking candidly during a recent interview with combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani, Ditcheva detailed her recovery process, explaining that she has strategically focused the opening phase of her comeback on grappling while easing her way back into high-impact striking drills.

This is not the first time the undefeated Brit has had to manage hand ailments during her rapid ascent through the professional ranks. Ditcheva previously dealt with a hand injury following her impressive victory over Sumiko Inaba last year. However, reflecting on her latest recovery cycle, the surging contender noted that her body healed at a significantly faster rate this time around. Remarkably, Ditcheva was cleared to return to the gym approximately nine weeks after undergoing surgery, a swift timeline that caught even her own expectations.

"I’m good, I’m all clear," Ditcheva shared during her appearance with Ariel Helwani. "I’m back at training now, so yeah, I’m ready to go. I’m just waiting for a date for the belt. I want my belt back. I’ve been grappling for a few weeks now. I just kind of took my time a little bit with the striking. I haven’t got a fight coming up, so I thought, let me just focus on the grappling; now Jena’s the person with the belt. I healed so quickly this time… It was like nine weeks since surgery, which is really quick."

The ambition driving Ditcheva’s immediate call for a title opportunity is firmly rooted in her proven track record inside the Pels’s SmartCage. Throughout her stellar 16-0 professional career, the knockout artist has established a reputation for absolute dominance, finishing 13 of her opponents before the final bell. Among those statement victories is a notable previous encounter against Jena Bishop. In their initial meeting in 2024, Ditcheva showcased her lethal striking prowess by securing a devastating first-round technical knockout victory over Bishop, a history that adds profound context and competitive urgency to her current campaign for a championship rematch.

As the PFL calendar moves forward, attention increasingly turns toward how the promotion will match its elite talent. With major events scheduled across the global circuit—including the upcoming PFL Dubai card headlined by a high-stakes heavyweight title fight scheduled to broadcast on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. ET on the ESPN app—the landscape of the organization remains charged with anticipation. For Dakota Ditcheva, the immediate future is about staying patient, sharp, and entirely prepared for the moment the promotion gives her the green light to challenge Jena Bishop for the flyweight crown.
