WWE officials reportedly believe that a pointed warning regarding loyalty issued by Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh during an escalating regional security crisis was aimed partly at the sports-entertainment giant. The unfolding situation has thrown the upcoming Crown Jewel premium live event into uncertainty, arriving just one week after superstar boxer Canelo Alvarez is scheduled to step into the ring in Riyadh.
The wrestling organization is currently scheduled to stage Crown Jewel on November 7, falling exactly seven days after Canelo challenges Christian Mbilli for the prestigious WBC super middleweight championship. Both high-profile international events remain officially on the calendar despite recent deadly attacks on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport and subsequent international warnings regarding the threat of further strikes in the region.
However, the gravity of the situation has not gone unnoticed by the corporate leadership behind the scenes. Concerns within WWE have reportedly reached the highest echelons of TKO Group Holdings, with corporate executive Ari Emanuel expected to have the ultimate authority on whether Crown Jewel proceeds as planned in Saudi Arabia or if contingency plans must be put into motion.
WWE Takes Turki Warning Seriously
According to reporting from Wrestling Observer Radio, key figures inside WWE are operating under the strong assumption that Alalshikh’s recent social media commentary was directed, at least in part, at the global wrestling promotion.
The prominent Saudi boxing official posted the pointed public statement shortly after revealing that Mexican boxing icon Canelo Alvarez had personally reached out to him to confirm his unwavering commitment to fighting in Riyadh later this month, regardless of the mounting geopolitical tensions.
"Canelo reached out and told me he’ll still fight in Riyadh this October, no matter what happens. He fears nothing," Alalshikh stated publicly while addressing the boxer’s resolve.
Alalshikh later expressed his gratitude to those who had shown steadfast support during a difficult period before delivering the critical phrase that caught the attention of international sports executives: "Hard times reveal true friends."
Discussing the internal reception of those remarks within the wrestling industry, the Wrestling Observer Radio report noted: "In WWE, when that tweet came out, I mean they knew it was a message for them too."
The same report emphasized that the final determination regarding the status of the Riyadh show rests firmly with top corporate leadership rather than day-to-day wrestling executives. "This is obviously going to be Ari Emanuel’s decision. This is way over Nick Khan’s head. I’m sure it won’t be without Nick Khan’s input."
To date, Alalshikh has not publicly confirmed or denied whether his pointed comments regarding loyalty were specifically aimed at WWE’s executive team.

Canelo Fight Under Pressure
The security concerns surrounding both major sporting spectacles escalated significantly after international advisories were issued. World Boxing News reported that the Mexican government formally warned its citizens to exercise extreme caution and avoid the immediate areas surrounding major transportation hubs in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam following a wave of violent security incidents.
According to figures released by Saudi aviation authorities, a devastating security breach at Riyadh’s primary international airport on October 10 resulted in 12 fatalities and left 309 individuals injured. A subsequent security incident reportedly claimed another life and left 11 more people injured, creating an atmosphere of heightened alert across the capital city.
Despite these alarming developments and official travel warnings, Alalshikh has insisted that Canelo remains fully committed to his October 31 showdown against Mbilli.
Within WWE, executives have been actively discussing the volatile security situation internally, though promotional momentum for Crown Jewel continued unabated, with the event still actively advertised to television audiences during an episode of Monday Night Raw.
Should WWE ultimately decide to pull out of the trip, the reaction from local organizers could be severe. Alalshikh is unlikely to view a withdrawal favorably, particularly given his recent public emphasis on loyalty during times of crisis. Furthermore, if the wrestling giant decides to cancel or relocate its show, the mounting pressure on Canelo and his promotional team to follow suit could become entirely untenable.
Safety Must Come First
Transporting fighters, wrestling talent, operational staff, and international supporters into Saudi Arabia from the United States, Mexico, and other global locations while active security warnings remain in effect would establish a complex and potentially hazardous operational precedent. While an elite athlete like Canelo may be personally willing to shoulder the risks associated with traveling to the region, the ultimate decision affects hundreds of staff members, production crews, and fans whose safety cannot be taken for granted.
Expecting one of boxing’s most recognizable global superstars to travel directly into a capital city recently affected by missile and drone attacks to compete for a world title represents an extraordinary set of circumstances, especially given that international airports were among the reported targets. While there has been no official suggestion that Canelo, Mbilli, or the boxing event itself has been deliberately singled out by hostile forces, general warnings regarding the risk of further strikes cannot simply be dismissed by event organizers.
The potential ramifications of any security failure during these events would extend far beyond the cancellation of a single boxing card or wrestling pay-per-view. Alalshikh and regional sports authorities have invested unprecedented capital into transforming Riyadh into a premier global destination for combat sports and entertainment, but the safety and well-being of everyone involved must supersede scheduling commitments.
Many sports fans and industry analysts would undoubtedly question the decision to press forward with major international gatherings if personnel were placed in active danger after authorities had already publicized credible security warnings.
As of now, WWE has made no official announcement regarding any alterations to the Crown Jewel schedule, and Canelo Alvarez remains officially set to headline his championship bout in Riyadh on October 31.
