Dana White Backs Rising Heavyweight Star Da’Mazion Vanhouter Ahead of British Showcase

The heavyweight division may have a new defining force on the horizon. According to Zuffa Boxing founder Dana White, American prospect Da’Mazion Vanhouter possesses all the necessary attributes to become the next major superstar in boxing’s glamour division, marking him as a talent capable of capturing global imagination.

The hard-hitting 21-year-old American prospect has carved out an impressive and flawless reputation early in his professional career, blazing his way to 13 victories. Among those wins, 10 have come via blistering knockouts, underlining a concussive punching power that strikes fear into opponents and excites fans. Vanhouter is now set to bring his explosive style across the Atlantic, preparing to showcase his immense capabilities in front of a British audience on the undercard of the Chris Billam-Smith versus Cheavon Clarke bill, broadcast live on Sky Sports this Saturday night.

Vanhouter’s trajectory could accelerate even further should he deliver another dominant performance this weekend. Success against his latest opponent, Ivan Balaz, could propel the young contender straight onto the massive blockbuster card featuring Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. Despite the towering expectations and the sudden rush of attention, White believes the young heavyweight possesses the mental fortitude and maturity required to handle the intense scrutiny that accompanies elite-level hype in professional boxing.

Speaking to Sky Sports, White addressed the mounting anticipation surrounding the unbeaten American. "We have got to see what happens at the weekend, but the answer to the question of whether he is America’s next great heavyweight hope is absolutely yes," White said.

The Zuffa Boxing chief emphasized the critical role that a dominant heavyweight presence plays in the broader ecosystem of combat sports. For promoters and fans alike, a transcendent heavyweight figure brings vital energy to the sport. "In every weight division where you have somebody who has the potential to become a superstar, it’s a big deal and very important for the sport," White explained. "Nothing is more important than the heavyweight division, and if you’re not excited about him after his last fight, hopefully tomorrow night you will be excited."

At the same time, White noted that he deliberately tempers his own enthusiasm until prospects face the deeper trials of the sport. The fight game remains an unforgiving arena, particularly in combat sports where a single setback can dramatically alter a fighter’s career path compared to team disciplines.

Dana White says Da'Mazion Vanhouter can be next 'superstar' of the heavyweight division

"I try to not get overexcited about anybody before they get further down the road and start to prove themselves, but pressure is this business," White noted. "Every fight is more important than the last. In team sports, a loss doesn’t set you back, but in individual sports, it’s an absolute killer. The pressure is always going to be there, and what you really want to do is not only test these guys physically and talent-wise, but can they handle the pressure, too?"

‘Wilder shouldn’t be fighting on Fury vs AJ bill’

While Vanhouter looks toward the future, the heavyweight landscape continues to be shaped by veterans who have defined previous eras of the division. Among them is Deontay Wilder, who reigned as America’s premier heavyweight force for a significant period. Wilder is scheduled to make his return on the undercard of the upcoming Fury versus Joshua event in Cardiff on December 11, where he is slated to face Jai Opetaia.

However, Vanhouter holds a critical view of the matchup, suggesting that the former WBC heavyweight champion risks further damaging his boxing legacy by taking on a dangerous opponent who is stepping up from the cruiserweight division.

Sharing his candid assessment with Sky Sports, Vanhouter questioned the wisdom of the matchmaking. "I thought it was a funny fight," Vanhouter said. "I think it’s kind of cool, but I don’t think Wilder should be fighting. I just think he’s tarnishing his name, but I don’t think he wins."

Vanhouter pointed to Opetaia’s technical capabilities and Wilder’s historical vulnerability to precise power punches as the decisive factors that could spell trouble for the veteran American. "His skill, if he doesn’t get hit by the right hand, and he catches Wilder—we all know he’s chinny, so he’ll be able to get him out of there."

For now, Vanhouter’s immediate focus remains firmly fixed on his own upcoming test. Boxing fans can watch Chris Billam-Smith face Cheavon Clarke, alongside Da’Mazion Vanhouter’s high-stakes clash against Ivan Balaz, this Saturday live on Sky Sports starting from 7pm.
