Paramount-Skydance Merger Opens Door for UFC Broadcasts on HBO, TNT, and CBS Following Massive Media Deal

You might catch a UFC special on HBO sooner rather than later, as the landscape of combat sports broadcasting undergoes a seismic shift following one of the largest media transactions in corporate history.

Paramount-Skydance recently closed a massive $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. and all of the company’s assets, a blockbuster transaction that immediately brings an extensive portfolio of legacy networks—including HBO, TBS, TNT, and many others—under the same corporate umbrella. While the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s landmark broadcast deal with Paramount, which officially kicked off at the start of 2026, initially landed the vast majority of the mixed martial arts organization’s programming squarely on the Paramount+ streaming service, this unprecedented corporate merger has instantly blown the doors open to all sorts of cross-platform possibilities.

The strategic implications of this media consolidation were addressed head-on this week by leadership within TKO Group Holdings, the parent company of the UFC. TKO Group Holdings president and COO Mark Shapiro revealed on Wednesday that high-level talks are already actively ongoing concerning the massive corporate merger and the UFC’s potential expansion across a diverse array of traditional television networks and digital platforms.

"We’re in conversation as we speak with Skydance about the best way to maximize audience across the Skydance platform," Shapiro said during a routine TKO financial call with investors and analysts. Elaborating on the collaborative nature of the discussions, Shapiro emphasized the strong professional relationships already established between the executive teams. "We have a great partnership with the entire team there. I used to work with David Berson, who’s the head of Skydance Sports, from our days at ESPN. He’s super creative."

The acquisition fundamentally alters the distribution potential for major sporting events. By uniting Paramount and Warner Bros. under a single operational strategy, the combined entity controls a robust ecosystem of entertainment and news outlets. Shapiro outlined how the company intends to leverage this newly expanded footprint to benefit the fighting organization and its massive, highly engaged global fanbase.

"We will be maximizing HBO, TNT, Paramount+, CBS, all in the name of expanding eyeballs, expanding viewership, growing audience, and increasing engagement," Shapiro stated during the financial call. "Fully aligned strategically with Skydance and, frankly, they made a huge investment in UFC, and we want to see that we help them maximize their returns."

This corporate synergy builds upon the foundational framework established when the UFC inked a massive, historic seven-year, $7.7 billion broadcast agreement to move its operations from ESPN to Paramount at the start of 2026. That monumental agreement simultaneously eliminated traditional pay-per-view broadcasts for the promotion, a departure from the business model that defined the sport for decades. Under that 2026 agreement, every live UFC event transitioned to airing exclusively on the Paramount+ streaming service, a move designed to capture the growing digital-first consumer base and provide predictable, recurring value for subscribers.

While the transaction between Paramount and Warner Bros. is already officially complete, the complex corporate machinery required for full operational integration across all the various properties is still currently underway. As the corporate structures merge and administrative systems align, industry analysts anticipate significant structural changes to digital streaming offerings. Eventually, Paramount+ is widely expected to merge with HBO Max, a technological and consumer-facing integration that would immediately and drastically increase overall subscription totals, market penetration, and cumulative viewership numbers across the board.

The combination of the colossal $7.7 billion rights deal and the subsequent $110 billion media merger creates an environment where sports programming can be utilized with unprecedented flexibility. While there is no official, final timeline or definitive programming schedule dictating precisely how much Paramount plans to feature the UFC across the various newly acquired linear networks and digital platforms, management commentary makes it abundantly clear that such high-profile cross-promotional programming could be happening in the near future.
