What has Jarrell Miller been doing since his two doping bans?

American heavyweight boxer Jarrell Miller faces Daniel Dubois as part of the Day of Reckoning card this weekend. Miller has courted controversy within the boxing world for serving two suspensions for failed anti-doping tests.

In 2019 and facing the biggest opportunity of his career, Jarrell Miller failed his first set of anti-doping tests prior to a planned bout against Unified Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

The bout was cancelled, and Miller served just a six month suspension as a penalty for his infraction.

Miller targeted a bout against heavyweight Jerry Forrest as his comeback. The bout would never come to fruition as Miller failed a second drugs test in 2020, and was penalised with a two year suspension.

Miller eventually returned to the ring in June 2022 following a four and a half year layoff. He picked up two victories against journeyman opposition to round out the year.

Jarrell Miller’s only professional contest of 2023 was scoring a sixth round TKO against aged Lucas Browne in Dubai. Miller controlled the contest and broke down his older opponent, winning with relative ease.

Miller had a further outing as an exhibition back in June. Jarrell Miller vs Antonio Zepeda in a four round exhibition served as the undercard to Floyd Mayweather vs John Gotti III.

The bout was a ridiculous mismatch, Zepeda (6-0) was a clear rookie against Miller who went out with instructions not to mark his opponent. The crowd ridiculed the bout and the heavily overweight Miller, which went four tepid rounds.

The contest does serve as Miller’s most recent activity of the year as he hasn’t fought since, despite being linked to elusive WBA regular champion Manuel Charr.

Jarrell Miller has another opportunity at real success when he appears on the Day of Reckoning undercard. Miller faces Englishman and recent Oleksandr Usyk opponent Daniel Dubois. Victory for Miller over the former WBA regular champion Dubois will ensure more nights in Saudi Arabia.

Daniel Dubois enters as the heavy favourite with the bookmakers against Jarrell Miller, but will be heavily outweighed against an older opponent. It could be that Miller grabs his last opportunity to make a name for himself in the heavyweight division.
