Report: Netflix Developing Dana White Documentary

According to reports from Page Six, the untitled and sweeping project will closely examine the tumultuous life, polarizing career, and monumental industry role of the executive who transformed the Ultimate Fighting Championship from a deeply struggling combat sports promotion into a multibillion-dollar global entertainment empire. As of now, neither Netflix nor Dana White has publicly confirmed or officially announced the documentary project, maintaining a shroud of secrecy around its production status and creative direction.

Industry insiders note that acclaimed filmmaker Gotham Chopra is reportedly attached to direct the project. Chopra brings an extensive and decorated background in sports documentary production through his company, Religion of Sports. His impressive portfolio includes deep-dive projects involving some of the most iconic figures in modern athletic history, such as Tom Brady, Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Serena Williams, and LeBron James, making him a seasoned choice for tackling a figure as complex and visible as the UFC head.

The origins of the project trace back to a different concept altogether. The film reportedly began as a broader, more atmospheric documentary about the vibrant, high-stakes culture of Las Vegas before the creative vision shifted decisively toward White himself. According to reports, the project gained traction and internal approval while Netflix was actively pursuing the UFC’s next lucrative American media-rights package. Although Netflix made a strong push for the catalog, the broadcast and streaming rights ultimately went to Paramount in a competitive media landscape shift.

Paramount’s subsequent landmark seven-year agreement with the UFC officially kicked off in 2026, establishing Paramount+ as the exclusive home for live UFC events in the United States. Furthermore, that expansive partnership integrated cornerstone franchise programming such as Dana White’s Contender Series and The Ultimate Fighter under the Paramount umbrella. Despite missing out on the live broadcast rights, Netflix’s documentary efforts appear to have pressed forward, turning the lens directly onto the architect of modern mixed martial arts.

White’s storied, volatile history with the UFC will reportedly serve as a central narrative pillar of the upcoming documentary. The executive’s journey is a foundational piece of sports business lore. In 2001, White famously convinced his childhood friends, billionaire casino executives Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta, to purchase the nearly bankrupt and heavily stigmatized promotion for approximately $2 million. Stepping in as the company’s president, White instituted aggressive operational changes, navigated fierce regulatory battles, and guided its explosive expansion over the next decade and a half.

That chapter culminated in a historic sale in 2016, when the UFC was sold to an Endeavor-led ownership group for approximately $4 billion, cementing White’s status as a transformative sports promoter and retaining his leadership role within the organization.

Beyond the historical rise of the promotion, the documentary could also address more recent, headline-grabbing chapters of White’s ongoing career. This includes high-profile endeavors such as the UFC Freedom 250 event hosted at the White House, as well as the ongoing development and promotion of Zuffa Boxing in partnership with Turki Alalshikh, reflecting White’s persistent ambitions to expand his combat sports footprint beyond the octagon.

Another compelling element that may factor into the film is White’s well-documented history with high-stakes gambling. A separate, previously discussed Netflix project had reportedly followed the executive through various Las Vegas casinos, documenting his intensive blackjack and baccarat sessions. While it remains unclear whether that previously captured material is directly connected to the newly reported documentary, the intersection of White’s high-roller lifestyle and his corporate persona has long fascinated observers of the sports and entertainment industries.

As production quietly moves forward behind the scenes, no official title, release date, comprehensive interview list, or promotional trailer has been announced by the streaming platform or the filmmakers. When contacted by reporters regarding the project, director Gotham Chopra declined to comment, leaving the combat sports and documentary worlds waiting for an official word on what promises to be one of the most scrutinized sports profiles of the decade.
