Aryna Sabalenka Crowned World’s Most Marketable Athlete for 2026 by SportsPro

Aryna Sabalenka has officially been named the world’s most marketable athlete for 2026, with the dominant Belarusian tennis star claiming the top spot on SportsPro’s 17th annual list of the 50 Most Marketable Athletes, powered by NorthStar Solutions Group.

Sabalenka, 28, a four-time Grand Slam champion, solidified her elite status by finishing the 2025 season as the WTA Tour’s top-ranked singles player for the second consecutive year. Her incredible success on the court has been matched by unprecedented commercial appeal off it. Industry estimates place her total earnings for 2025 at approximately US$30 million, a figure evenly distributed between high-stakes tournament winnings and lucrative off-court income. Her impressive portfolio of global brand endorsements includes major partnerships with industry titans such as Nike, Wilson, Gucci, Emirates, Audemars Piguet, Whoop, and Stella Artois.

With this milestone, Sabalenka etches her name into the history books as only the fourth woman and the third tennis player to top SportsPro’s prestigious ranking since its inception back in 2010. She sits atop a high-profile top five that reflects a diverse array of global sports stars. Rounding out the leading group for 2026 are Olympic freestyle skiing champion Eileen Gu, dominant NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo, prolific soccer star Erling Haaland, and Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz.

The annual ranking is built on a rigorous and comprehensive data-driven methodology. The 2026 edition of SportsPro’s 50 Most Marketable Athletes evaluates competitors using a 100-point NorthStar Marketability Score. This score is constructed from three distinct pillars: Brand Equity, which accounts for 45 points; Momentum, weighted at 40 points; and Commercial Trajectory, which makes up the remaining 15 points. Together, this sophisticated evaluation model measures the strength of the brand an athlete has carefully built, the current momentum driving their popularity, and the untapped room they still possess for future commercial growth.

Behind this composite score lies a deeply analytical framework featuring 27 defined marketability drivers. These drivers are informed by several hundred individual data points gathered for each athlete alongside more than 3,000 historical brand partnership records. The scope of the evaluation for 2026 was vast, considering an expanded pool of 1,202 athletes spanning 70 different sports. Performance, visibility, and market metrics were examined using evidence collected between July 1st, 2025, and June 30th, 2026, with a shortlisted group of 247 athletes assessed in complete detail to determine the final top 50 list.

An analysis of the broader demographic and geographic trends within this year’s list highlights both the diversity and shifting dynamics of global sports marketing. Women account for 16 athletes within the top 50. While this represents a notable presence among the world’s elite sports brands, it marks a slight decline from the 20 athletes featured last year and a peak of 23 female athletes recorded in 2023. In total, the 2026 list showcases 22 different nationalities, with nine of those nations represented within the elite top ten. Looking at overall representation by country, athletes from the United States lead the way with 16 entries, followed by India with five, Spain with four, and the United Kingdom with three.

When categorized by sporting disciplines, basketball emerges as the best-represented sport on the list with 13 athletes. It is closely followed by soccer with 11 athletes, tennis with eight, cricket with five, motorsport with three, and American football also contributing three. Examining the leagues behind these stars, the National Basketball Association (NBA) stands out as the most dominant, boasting ten athletes on the list. Among the rising generation of talent, Washington Wizards forward AJ Dybantsa secures the number ten spot, earning distinction as the most marketable teenage athlete in the world today.

The list also captures the impact of major recent international competitions, most notably the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. American figure skater Alysa Liu enters the rankings at number six, making her the highest new entry following her gold medal-winning performances on the Olympic ice. At the other ends of the age spectrum, Brazilian skateboarder Rayssa Leal claims the 48th spot, holding the title of the youngest athlete in the top 50 at just 18 years old. Conversely, NBA legend LeBron James, who is set to turn 42 in December, remains the oldest competitor featured in the elite group.

The partnership between SportsPro and NorthStar Solutions Group continues to provide critical insights into the modern sports economy. Chris Collins, the founder, chief executive, and president of NorthStar Solutions Group—whose proprietary assessment model has exclusively powered SportsPro’s marketability list since 2022—emphasized the vital connection between athletic achievement and commercial viability.

"An athlete’s marketability reflects the strength of their brand, the momentum behind it, and the opportunities to translate that into commercial value," said Collins. "Our work with SportsPro brings those dimensions together to help brands, athletes, and their representatives make more informed partnership decisions. It also reflects the broader direction of NorthStar’s Sports Practice: connecting intelligence to the decisions and actions that create lasting value."

Collins further noted that the sophisticated framework utilized for this year’s release serves as an essential foundation for the ongoing development of a broader sports asset intelligence platform currently being built by his organization. As the commercial landscape of global sports continues to evolve at a rapid pace, metrics like the NorthStar Marketability Score offer an increasingly vital lens through which the true value of modern sports stars is measured and understood.
