Adrien Broner, the troubled former boxing champion once celebrated as the dynamic future of the sport, has added yet another chapter to his long history of controversies with a weekend run-in with law enforcement in Beverly Hills, California.
Now more than two years removed from his last professional boxing match, the 37-year-old athlete found himself in the middle of a police investigation while participating in street recordings for the popular livestreaming and social media platform Kick. Broner was among a group of men capturing content on the affluent streets of Southern California when local police units arrived on the scene following reports of a large street gathering in a residential neighborhood.
Viral video footage circulating across social media platforms captured the group recording what appeared to be an impromptu music video production featuring Broner alongside fellow internet content creator Deen The Great. In the clips, Broner can be seen wearing an open gray sweatshirt near the center of the group, engaging with the production before law enforcement intervention disrupted the recording.
A separate piece of viral footage shows a markedly different tone from the afternoon, featuring Broner with his arms raised and walking backward toward a pair of Beverly Hills police officers. The officers ultimately placed the former boxing star in handcuffs. True to his unpredictable public persona, Broner attempted to deflect the tension of the moment by performing a comical walk for the officers’ benefit. However, the responding law enforcement personnel appeared entirely unamused by the performance.
The Beverly Hills Police Department subsequently clarified the situation in an official statement provided to media outlets, confirming the nature of the stop. "Broner was detained during a traffic stop as part of an investigation into a large street gathering in a residential area," police officials stated. Authorities added that he was ultimately released directly from the scene and was not issued a formal citation. Representatives for the Daily Mail have since sought further information and clarification from the Beverly Hills Police Department regarding the broader circumstances of the gathering.
The incident in Beverly Hills represents only the latest in a mounting series of legal, professional, and personal hurdles for the former champion. Broner is currently named as one of several defendants in a civil lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County, which includes serious allegations of sexual battery, battery, and assault.
According to details from the legal complaint obtained by the Daily Mail, the plaintiff alleges a disturbing pattern of behavior. The court documents state that Broner repeatedly pressured the plaintiff for sexual activity after facing multiple refusals, attempted to isolate the plaintiff, applied persistent pressure while intoxicated, attempted unwanted physical contact, publicly humiliated the plaintiff, and allegedly made false sexual statements about the individual to an online livestream audience. Broner and his legal representatives have consistently denied any wrongdoing in connection with the ongoing civil case.
These mounting legal troubles compound a series of erratic public appearances that have steadily overshadowed his once-prominent athletic legacy. In September of 2025, Broner made headlines for entirely different reasons when he was abruptly expelled from rapper Cam’ron’s popular digital podcast, "It Is What It Is," after repeatedly ignoring direct warnings from the host to stop making unwanted advances toward an on-air co-host.
Sporting a heavily greying beard and speaking in a voice that appeared increasingly raspy, Broner repeatedly derailed the interview format to direct flirtatious remarks at Treasure "Stat Baby" Wilson, who co-hosts the program alongside hip-hop veterans Cam’ron and Ma$e. At one point during the broadcast, when asked a routine question regarding the current landscape of professional boxing’s competitive welterweight division, Broner sidestepped the sporting inquiry entirely to tell Wilson, "Stat, I love you."
The tension in the studio steadily escalated during a segment discussing the weekend’s professional football action. Broner appeared to catch himself mid-sentence as he contemplated another remark directed at Wilson, acknowledging on air, "I can’t talk… You told me to stop."
Sensing the boundary violations, Cam’ron swiftly intervened to bring the interview to an immediate conclusion. "Hey, we going to have to ask you to go, my n*****," Cam’ron informed his guest on camera. The rapper then reached into a small bag, pulled out a substantial stack of physical cash, and handed it directly to Broner. "I don’t have no problems with you, but I’m gonna pay you for your time," Cam’ron said, explicitly adding, "You can’t violate, bro," before noting to the audience that Wilson’s boyfriend was present on the set.
For followers of combat sports, these recurring controversies stand in stark contrast to the immense athletic promise that once defined Broner’s early professional career. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Broner experienced a meteoric rise through the boxing ranks, capturing the WBO Super Featherweight world title at the remarkably young age of 22 back in 2011. Celebrated for his lightning-fast hands, defensive prowess reminiscent of his idol Floyd Mayweather Jr., and an flamboyant, larger-than-life personality, he was widely touted as a future pay-per-view megastar and a multi-division kingpin.
However, the trajectory of his career eventually stalled amid a combination of upset defeats inside the ring, well-documented struggles with mental health, and a recurring pattern of arrests and legal troubles outside of it. As he navigates life far away from championship contention, his recent appearance in Beverly Hills highlights the ongoing challenges that continue to follow the former boxing star long after his days under the bright lights of the sport’s biggest venues.
