Arman Tsarukyan was clearly not amused by Dillon Danis’s choice of apparel at the RAF 14 press conference on Thursday, setting off a chaotic chain of events that nearly tore down the stage before the two combatants could even step into official competition. The pre-fight media gathering, which began with relatively calm verbal sparring, quickly deteriorated into a massive physical altercation when Danis decided to lean into his reputation for provocation by unveiling a deeply personal and insulting piece of custom merchandise directed at one of Tsarukyan’s closest allies.
After exchanging plenty of trash talk in a calm and measured manner during the early portions of the press conference, Danis stood to show off his t-shirt when asked by media members what he was wearing. Danis, who is never short on controversy and has built a long career on pushing psychological buttons both inside and outside of the cage and grappling mats, proudly revealed that he was wearing a customized shirt featuring Tsarukyan’s teammate and close personal friend, undefeated UFC standout Khamzat Chimaev.
The atmosphere in the room shifted instantly from routine media obligations to high-voltage tension as Danis explained the graphic design printed across his chest.
"It says Khamzat’s my bitch," Danis responded to the inquiring crowd, offering further elaboration on the provocative imagery. "And it has a picture with him without a beard."
The targeted insult struck a raw nerve. Just a second later, Tsarukyan stood abruptly from his seat on the stage and charged directly at Danis, looking to either silence the always outspoken grappling veteran or perhaps to rip the offensive garment right off his body. Tsarukyan, known for his elite-level skills and intense competitive fire inside the MMA cage, showed zero hesitation in closing the distance as the situation escalated from verbal insults to physical violence in the blink of an eye.
Whatever the precise motivation behind the sudden rush—whether it was wounded pride for his friend, an urge to defend Chimaev’s honor, or simply pure competitive fury—Tsarukyan’s mad dash at Danis ignited a huge brawl as dozens of people charged the stage either in support of the fighters or as part of the security detail desperately trying to keep them separated before permanent damage could be done.
The ensuing melee nearly tore down the stage entirely as RAF officials attempted to gain control of the chaotic situation. Rather than attempting a traditional grappling exchange or looking for textbook takedowns, both Danis and Tsarukyan were actively looking for punches, trading strikes amidst a sea of surging bodies, security guards, and handlers who had swarmed the elevated platform to break up the mass disturbance. The chaotic scenes played out in front of stunned onlookers and cameras, highlighting the volatile nature of high-profile combat sports promotional events where personal insults frequently cross the line into physical confrontations.
When RAF promotion officials and security teams finally gained control of the tumultuous situation, the stage was cleared for the customary faceoffs that typically conclude such media events. However, needless to say, Tsarukyan and Danis did not appear again for faceoffs, with organizers opting to keep the two fiery competitors completely separated to prevent any secondary flare-ups ahead of fight night.
Despite the chaotic disruption at the press conference, the main event remains firmly on track. Arman Tsarukyan and Dillon Danis are scheduled to meet in the highly anticipated RAF 14 main event on Friday, which kicks off at 9 p.m. ET with full coverage available on MMA Fighting.
